Bruce C. Birch graduated Magna cum laude from Southwestern College and with honors from Perkins School of Theology. He was a Woodrow Wilson Dissertation Fellow at Yale and was awarded his M. A., M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees. With an Association of Theological Schools Research Fellowship, Bruce did post-doctoral study at Tübingen University in West Germany. He is an ordained elder in the United Methodist Church and a member of the Baltimore-Washington Conference. He has served as a delegate to General and Jurisdictional Conferences and is on the United Methodist General Board of Church and Society. At the 2008 meeting of the Society of Biblical Literature, Bruce was elected as Chair of the Executive Council of the Society. He has also served on the steering committee for the Chief Academic Officers Society of The Association of Theological Schools as well as several committees for Middle States Commission on Higher Education. In 1998 he began his tenure as Dean of the Seminary at Wesley Theological Seminary and in 1999 was awarded the Woodrow W. and Mildred B. Miller Chair of Professor of Biblical Theology.
